Goldie Hawn Shares Heartbreaking Health Struggle at the Oscars

Actress Goldie Hawn shared her ongoing secret health struggle while she was presenting an award at the Oscars on Sunday evening.

Alongside actor Andrew Garfield, the Death Becomes Her star presented two awards at the ceremony. However, she emotionally admitted live on air that she was struggling with her duties and asked the younger actor for some assistance, reports the Mirror.

The 79-year-old wasn’t able to read what was written on the teleprompter in front of her, leading her to ask Garfield for take over shortly after starting the presentation.

“I was so lucky [to] make movies… and making people laugh. And maybe some didn’t, but that’s okay,” Goldie said. “In the meantime,” she began before turning to Andrew for a little bit of help. “Okay. Sweetheart, can you read that? I can’t read that,” Goldie asked, before explaining: “I’m completely blind. I mean, I am! Cataracts.”

‌Cataracts are a more common issue for older people, and can involve the lenses of your eye becoming cloudy – thus making your overall vision less clear.

Andrew was quick to Goldie’s aid, simply saying: “Okay, I’ve got you” before taking over the presenting duties. He also took the opportunity to express how honoured he was to be presenting alongside the Oscar winner.

While holding Goldie’s hand at the podium, the Spiderman star said: “Goldie, can I tell you something really quickly? There is a person who gave my mother during her life the most joy and comfort – and tonight, I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart. That person is Goldie Hawn.”

There were some mixed reactions around the incident, with some viewers finding the moment ‘awkward’. However, many other fans took to X to gush over the unexpected moment between Goldie and Andrew, as one person said: “So funny how jaded people are… it was sweet, gracious, and a rare moment of REAL in Hollywood.

“She was clearly very touched, as any would be to hear that what they did MATTERED that much to his mom. He blessed her heart with that moment of kindness.”
